e-Government in Algeria according to the 2022 United Nations Survey

The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs has just published the 12th edition of its report on e-Government development in the 193 member states. It is a survey that ranks countries according to the E-Government Development Index (EGDI) and the e-Participation Index (EPI).

Algeria gained 8 places compared to 2020 with an EGDI of 0.5611, ranking 112th out of 193 countries and 9th on the African continent. Denmark, Finland, and South Korea top the list. The United Arab Emirates is one of the most developed countries in the Arab world with an EGDI of 0.901.

The e-Participation Index (EPI) is a complementary measure to the EGDI, ranking countries based on their use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) to engage citizens in the democratic process. Although Algeria gained 35 places between 2020 and 2022, it still underperforms in this area; the survey ranks it 148th out of 193 with an EPI score of 0.2273, which is well below the global and even African average.
